Being a Christian means different things to different people. To some people it means an excuse to do awful things in the name of God, when they twist the bible to get it to say what they want it to say. To other people it means being self-righteous, like, because I am a Christian, I'm going to heaven, and you are going to hell. To other people it means constantly looking over your shoulder to watch for the government coming to arrest you. But what does the bible say about being a Christian? It says we are made Christians through God, and that if we become Christians, it is not our own doing, but God's. Ephesians 2:8-9 "For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast." And John 13:34-35 says: "A new command I give to you, that you love one another; just as I have loved you, you also must love one another. By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another." I seems so easy, doesn't it, that all you have to do is love, and you will get into heaven. 1 Corinthians 13:13 - "So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love." And Matthew 7:21-23 says, “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’ And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness." I know that last verse is hard to hear- it is for me too- but my point in providing that verse is to say that to enter the kingdom of heaven, you need to do the will of the Father. Mark 16:16 says: "Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned." There. Plain and simple. Only not so plain. What are we believing in? John 14:6 "Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." We have to believe that Jesus can save us, and that he is the Father's son, and the only way to the Father. John 8:12: Then Jesus spoke to them again saying, "I am the light of the world. He who follows me will not walk ing darkness, but will have the light of life." Jesus is the only way to the Father.
